6 - ON THE ROAD
This is the last song I wrote for the album. It started off feeling a bit more country, but gradually got more and more energetic. It's one of my favourites - I love the optimism of it. The feeling of being on an adventure, sleeping under the stars and so on is all stuff that I love - I had just been reading Woody Guthrie's Bound For Glory. And I think it has some of the grace and acceptance that recur in Watch How You Go and In Your Own Time. It's already a real highlight of the set when we play it live.

Es la última canción que compuse para el álbum. Comenzó con una cadencia más country, pero poco a poco fue ganando en energía. Es una de mis favoritas, me encanta su optimismo. La sensación de estar viviendo una aventura, durmiendo bajo las estrellas y demás, son cosas que me apasionan. Acababa de leer Bound For Glory de Woody Guthrie. Creo que recoge parte de la aceptación y la gentileza recurrente en Watch How You Go y en In Your Own Time. Se ha convertido en un punto álgido del repertorio en directo cuando la tocamos.

I'm in the same boat as grumpel. The more I listen to the album, the more songs I come out loving. There are few (if any) Keane songs I wouldn't add to any playlist. But I love the way that this song and Neon River feel like they're describing my life right now. I'm a recent grad and looking to spread my wings as far as I can, and this just feels like the soundtrack to my life at the moment. Thanks as ever guys for making my life more enjoyable by being in it and making the music you do. I can't wait to hear this in concert next month at the Vic in Chicago! Keep being amazing!

my FIRST favourite song from the album. I love that I keep having to re-evaluate my appreciation for each song on the album! Usually I have 1-2 favourites on an album that I rarely waver from but this is one of the ones where repeated listens can really change my perceptions.

Strangeland finally came today (thanks Amazon for taking your time!) and its all brilliant but I am really loving 'On The Road'. Please put on your set list when you play Bristol in June :)

Although I consider myself a huge Keane fan, I must say that for me "On The Road" is by far the worst track on the album, maybe the worst song of all four albums. Energetic - yes, but that doesn't make a good song. These long stretched "go-oh"s and "know-oh"s just sound infantile to my ears. Sorry to say that, but these are silly musical ingredients normally applied by uninspired student combos, desperately trying to motivate the audience to clap their hands and sing-a-long the "oh"s. Somehow this track reminds me of songs by Meat Loaf. Charming guy, but I never liked his music. Don't get me wrong. Even if I have to dismiss "On The Road", I think the rest of the songs make "Strangeland" a great album! :) Greetings from Germany!

Such a great song! It's possibly my favourite of the album, well this is very hard to say, I'm not sure, I have so many favourities in this album!!! I had the privilege to listen to it live in Austin, and I agree with you, live is simply fantastic, so much energy!!! It's one of those songs that makes you sing at the top of your voice, stomp your feet and knock your head (and emabrasses you when you are doing that in your car and traffic lights are red ahahahah). I can't help but want to dance when I hear this song. I picture myself in a covertible, on the highway, blasting this song. Love it!
It's such a great up - meter, happy, major chords song to compliment the moodier, dreamy ones, and it's perfectly placed on the album. I was driving to see my daughter today, and I love listening to music in the car while going on a roadtrip. I listened straight through STRANGELAND today, and I was totally blown away! Two new songs that really opened my ears were "Day Will Come" and "In Your Own Time". I had not heard those from any of the shows that were made for videos on Youtube by fans. I feel like "On The Road" or "Day Will Come" will be the next single - or two! The flow from the songs, I have to keep going to the one before because they all are gems! I mean, the flow and textures from "Black Rain" through the end of "Sea Fog" is just so deep.
