EVERYBODY'S CHANGING RETROSPECTIVE EP
UPDATE: Unfortunately, there was a slight error in the audio on a couple of the EP's tracks, but the problems have now been sorted. If you've already bought and downloaded the EP, then go back to your download 'basket' to re-download the EP. We're very pleased to announce the launch of a special new run of digital retrospective EPs, which will only be available via the keanemusic.com shop. The idea is that these EPs will bring together some of the rarest Keane tracks, giving the band's most loyal fans (ie you lot) the chance to own them.
We begin with an Everybody's Changing-themed collection of songs. For £3.95, you'll get the following tracks as high-quality MP3s (which means they'll play on any player, including iPods). None of these are available elsewhere - and the video chat has been made especially.

Original demo
I wrote Everybody’s Changing some time in early 2002. I remember sitting at the piano at my Mum and Dad’s house one evening and playing the piano riff, then writing a song to fit around the riff.
We were working on Bend And Break and some other songs at that time, and I didn’t think Everybody’s Changing was as good a song, so I didn’t put much effort into the demo. However when I played it to the Tom and Richard and our friends at BMG Publishing (who had just signed us), they all loved it, so we finished the lyrics and went to work on it properly.
Fierce Panda version
We spent the rest of 2002 playing gigs wherever we could. Everybody’s Changing developed a lot during this period. Initially we tried to make it into a very electronic thing, with a bit of a Massive Attack vibe – we were listening to Mezzanine a lot at the time (see track 2). It always felt too contrived though, and like many of the tracks that ended up on Hopes And Fears, it eventually came full circle and ended up revolving around real drums and the CP70 piano. We bought a Roland Juno 6 (an old analogue synth) from a guy in Bexhill, plugged it in and pretty much the first thing to come out of it was the synthy ‘blips’ and ‘sweeps’ you hear on the finished song.
At the end of 2002 we were feeling pretty despondent about the prospect of anyone ever actually hearing our music – we’d been turned down by what seemed like every record label in the UK! We decided to play a couple of very small Christmas shows to round off the year, and Simon Williams of legendary indie label Fierce Panda came along. He told us he wanted to release Everybody’s Changing as a single in the new year. So we polished up the demo, cobbled together some artwork (it’s a collage of two photographs – one of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, and one of the field outside my parents’ house), and handed it over to Simon. Next thing we knew Steve Lamacq was playing it on Radio 1.

The Radio 1 session included here was the first of many visits to the BBC’s famous Maida Vale studios. My main recollection of the day is that we were incredibly nervous – as you can probably tell! It was a really exciting experience though, and a lot of fun. It was the first time we’d met and heard The Zutons too - we enjoyed their session so much that we asked them to open for us in America a few months later.
Demo of Fly To Me (Everybody's Changing B-side)
Fly To Me is one of my favourite Keane songs, and it always makes me a bit emotional! I did the demo for it very quickly, and cobbled together a solo using my new melodica that I’d bought in Berlin while we were supporting Starsailor. When we needed a B-side for Everybody’s Changing, we went into the old Island Studios in St Peter’s Square to add some real drums, vocals, and so on. I remember that for some reason Steve Winwood’s Hammond organ was in the studio, so we put some of that on the song. I also recall sitting on the steps of the studio desperately trying to finish the lyrics, with our allotted studio time rapidly running out. We were so short of time that we used all my rough vocals and BVs from the demo to double-track Tom’s vocal in the choruses. By a lucky chance, the combination created a really haunting vocal sound, and I think that’s one of the things that makes the song so atmospheric and moving.
Into The Light Demo (Unreleased Song)
You can tell I was listening to Air quite a lot at the time I wrote this. It’s an interesting song sonically, quite weird and ghostly. I think there’s a recognisable link to Untitled 1, although which came first I really can’t remember. Funnily enough I think the electro vibe and the sparseness are actually closer to some of the tracks on Perfect Symmetry than to the feel of Hopes And Fears, so maybe in Keane terms it was just too far ahead of its time?!

I still can´t download!
I had the same problem as "pharrc20" After the download process is complete there's a window telling me that the file can't be opened, because it might be corrupted.... I'M TOTALLY DESPERATE!!! I'VE ALREADY TRIED TO DOWNLOAD IT MANY TIMES... BUT ALWAYS THE SAME!!!! ANY CLUE OR IDEA OF WHAT CAN I DO?? PLEASE!!!
i've just ordered the EC EP and gone through the download process and opted to save the downloaded zip folder named TrinityStreetOrder687xxx (my order number) and its not worked and says "The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted" on the error window. So no tracks zip zlich. Any suggestions? Tried more than once to download. :-((

@Vic! Finally! A compillation of their elder songs. I've had this wish in my mind for avery long time. Why not release an entire CD with some of their old songs in addition the EPs? For example : Walnut tree,Let it slide, Allemande, On a day like today, Happy soldier, To the end of the world, More matey. I don't know how much influence you have, but it seems that some of our suggestions are heard either by the band or people from km.com. I would be delighted to receive answer, think I'm not the only one . Till then I'm content with the EP.

I was supposed to sleep at this time...but I have some little thing to whisper. First, I really love the 2002 EC demo. I prefer this demo rather than the official version. Weird isn't it? I think that it's because of the melodic side of the thing. Second, about the interview, I think that it was interesting to remember those moments of pure inspiration. Necessarily another kind of insparation. Third, the Fly To Me demo is...hhmm...just incredible. I confess that, whether the demo or the official version, I can't hear this song fully without tears in my eyes. It's because of the lyrics. And the melody necesserly. And a last thing about Into The Light: wonderfull, but not deepens, not finished. Yeah!...I know that it's a demo guy...hahaha! Well! Now that I have done my job, I'M GOING TO MY BBBEEEDDD!!!I derserve it. And don't worry about me, I'm rarely go to sleep until 2 o'clock in the morning. ( LA: 4:59 pm, France: 1:59 am)

It's so different, lighter and more "airy" than the H&F version... and the Tim's chorus behind are simply lovely ! I love this demo even more than the album version ! lol The more I listen to it, the more I have the impression to come back 4 years earlier and discover EC for the first time ! The Fly to me demo is also very nice... And Into the light is... special... but I like it ! It reminds me Tyderian and Untitled 1 indeed. Very nice to have all these versions ! Thank you again ! Thank you!! I've downloaded my EP and .... I love "fly to me" demo. It is one of my TopTen favourite songs of the band and I love listening Tim singing keane songs. Also "Everybody's changing demo 2002" is amazing, so electronic and ...in the meanwhile much more sweet than the Hopes&Fears version...not too far from Fierce Panda version which I already own in my precious keane collection. Tim was right [of course he is =) ] about "Into the light"'s likeness with some tracks of "perfect symmetry"...who knows how many secret demos you have in your laptop!!??!! Hi Keane, I find the success very good that makes and the commercial eye of they must use to advantage the beauty and the talent that they possess. Because they do not record and you sell shows that they make for each Country. Here in Brazil we finish buying of a friend who homemade edited a video of the show, because with arms, hands and heads in our front, many times alone we could tan the sound. Each fan wants to have kept the emotion to have attended the Keane and to have some moments of the show. Little kisses to all and we wait anxiously for the next show in São Paulo. Everybody's Changing is the great song, I love this song, forever. ; )

In the store, where I work they put your CD "PS" now at least as advertising (special price), but people buy more AC/DC. At least Oasis, we didn´t sell more than yours! H&F still is getting saled as it also has a very special price, like Amy Winehouse first album "Frank". But the DVD from Mamma Mia, oh man, people are crazy about this movie! Well, I JUST saw you guys on my computer LIVE at KCRW! It did me a world of good to watch it. Cos, I was feeling pretty down in the dumps about not being able to fly to LA (but I am still very sad that I can't make it for any of the shows). The Owls lost...but they had pretty blue uniforms! I passed on the football game..everyone is bummed that the Longhorns are now ranked 3 rd...Oh well...Hope all is well.......
