8 - BLACK RAIN
This is a very impressionistic song, written very quickly and drawing on imagery from Ari Folman's amazing animated movie Waltz With Bashir. Every album of ours has a song on it that talks about war, and on Strangeland this is the song. I feel the tone of the song, a bit like the movie, is more about trying to understand, and seeing things from a very human point of view - which is in keeping with the atmosphere of the album as a whole. It's one of the pieces of music of which we're most proud.

Es una canción muy impresionista, compuesta de forma muy rápida, dibuja una imagen de la increíble película de animación de Ari Folman Waltz With Bashir. En todos nuestros discos hay un tema que habla sobre la guerra y en Strangeland esta es la canción. Creo que el tono del tema, como el de la película, versa más sobre el intento de comprensión, ver las cosas desde un punto de vista humano, para que la atmósfera del disco tenga coherencia. Es una de las piezas de las que más orgullosos nos sentimos.

Waltz with Bashi es una película de animación. Versa sobre la Guerra del Líbano. 1982 las tropas israelies invadieron ciudades con civiles y se enfrentaron a civiles. No lo sabía. Me he informado en internet. Quizá vea la pelicula para comprender mejor la canción. Puedo decir que Black Rain me suena una canción con bastantes timbres de sonidos y una escala de piano hacia una cuarta octava. La voz de Tom és casi de coro angelical de un niño. Lluïsa. Barcelona. This part of the song ..." red sky turning round black rain falling down if you've got love you better hope that that's enough .." really made me cry.. it make me imagine how people feel when they think about war, it make me think about children and people who suffer cos of war. Its hard for me to imagine the pain but im human and i try, i try to understand ... i live in Uruguay, very peaceful place we, dont know about war in here... but this song really touched me deep inside and i cry, i ry for every children outhere... what we need is hope, and in this song U can find that hope, the sunshine- Giovanna Gottero from Uruguay

It's different from the rest of the songs. I still have to get used to it. Not crazy about a part of the keyboard in the background (like a ticking sound). This song could easily be one of A-ha.
Black Rain to me is the best song in Strangeland, It became my Second favorite Keane song (Thin Air is the first). I love the part when Tom sings " If you've got love you better hope that that's enough" Such wise word giving you the opportunity to reflect on life that though it may be harsh and cruel Love is enough for you to fight for the things you want, you may be in war but it you have love it's not war it doesn't matter. Tom+Tim+Richard=Keane+Jesse= KEANE. Tengo el pack: libro+CD+DVD del FNAC. Es una auténtica pasada. El acústico con los instrumentos desnudos, es una delícia. Está lleno de detalles, el micro, el piano Bentley, la pequeña guitarrita de Jesse, los zapatos de Tom. I la voz de Tom que para mí ha madurado mucho. Un fort petó a tots des de Barcelona. Lluïsa. Black Rain is my favorite song on SL, and you sure can be proud of it. The lyrics, the drum part, the voices, it all comes together in this incredible piece of music. Please, keep on playing it live, I want to get a chance to hear it from you somehwere in Germany or Austria. SOON!
I couldn't have been the only one who found this song Radiohead-esque? To me, that's an wondeful connection! It's become my favourite song after several listens to the album but it's hard to have one favourite - I'd about 5 songs are vying for that spot...
Waited for this! "Black Rain" is one of the best songs on the album. It's like sister of "The Happy Soldier", but more romantic and... calm. Maybe it's a spirit of fatality. Anyway, brilliant. I love the prelude. Besides, Tom's voice is something incredible here! Thank you for the explanation, Tim. Thank you for the music, guys!

Since the first time I listened to Black Rain I loved it. I knew it would become one of my favourites from the album, if not the favourite. Tim's vocal is superb. Please please please I hope you'll add this one to the setlist!! All the best from The Frog Prince Squad \o/
@LP I think on Perfect Symmetry the war song was: Perfect Symmetry. But, Playing Along had for me also the touch of war.
