We're very pleased to announce the full international release of a 2CD Deluxe Edition of Keane's first album, Hopes And Fears, on 9th November 2009.
In addition to the original tracklisting, this album showcases previously un-released and rare material including early demo Into The Light, recordings from the band’s earliest Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley radio sessions, the timeless B-side and fans' favourite, Snowed Under (from Somewhere Only We Know), and their debut self-released singles.
The sleevenotes have been penned by long-time supporter Steve Lamacq. In them, he describes the first time he saw them at the Bull and Gate in Kentish Town: “There were only three of them but they sounded huge. They were independent of mind but definitely accessible”.
The 37-track Deluxe Edition is available to pre-order now from the Keane official store, for £14 (around $22 / €15).
We also have bundles containing the CD and a new T-shirt featuring the classic CP70 print. Plus, there is a very limited edition deluxe bundle, featuring the album, the T-shirt and a Hopes And Fears CP70 art print, signed by the band. Only 150 of these prints were made.

jhvfernandes well observed i felt the same way about PS i looked forward to the Spiralling release and then when i downloaded it i was like WTF!!!!! wheres the CP70!!!!! it was cheesey and awful but it didnt deter me from buying the album but i was dissapointed too but i suppose you have to move on in terms of sound to keep the fans happy. on one end of the spectrum you have a new army of fans who maybe want that so you dont hear "sounds like all their other stuff" and then on the other you have the ones right from the beginning like me who love to be carried away by that piano and pace the songs on H&F are anthemic and every track glide into eachother and i never tire of hearing it but UTIS had a couple of stinkers i didnt take to Hamburg Song or The Frog Prince but i loved Atlantic,Nothing In My Way,A Bad Dream and Try Again they still retained that sound that emotion and timing of the first album i enjoyed the b sides as well Let It Slide,HUTBALB,Thin Air.Tyderian,MICC but what i missed was Toms softer tones on PS he shouted rather than sung them theyre was no emotion in his voice every b side that was put out when H&F went platinum were excellent SOHE,TTEOTE,FTM,SU,SIMWD,WT and U2 they still were in the same league i think but each to their own but i preferred Keane when their songs were meant from the heart rather than processed for a buyers market which PS seams to have been it was Keane who influenced me to start playing piano and i own a Yamaha CP70B of my own now and i know how sitting in front of that instrument makes you feel when you actually play it and how they must have felt when they used them asll those years ago.
I'm happy to see that "Closer Now" and "A Heart to Hold You" are on the track list, but I'm disappointed that some of their other B-sides are not. I really wanted "Something In Me Was Dying" and "Staring At the Ceiling," just to name 2 more. I don't know if I'm going to buy the Deluxe edition... I would definitely buy it if it had more of the unreleased B-sides.
Yes! I can finally have Closer now, that's one of my favorite b-sides. Can't wait!
sunshineman : What you've said is in line with my previous comments. I was definitely less scientific in my analysis ( you really know about keyboard instruments ) and maybe less rational and more harsh, but that is because I had set the standards so high up for the last album that it was a big disappointment when I started listening to it ... I tried to feel the same emotions in the third album as I had felt in the previous albums but simply could not and still can not ... It is simple : the melodies are not so good !... The following songs are still missing in this re-edition of Hopes & Fears : - Mother Mary ( ? ) - Summer Dreaming ( sung by Dom Scott ) - Emily - Maps - More Matey - New One - The Happy Soldier - Walnut Tree - To The End Of The Earth - Fly To Me - Something In Me Was Dying - Untitled 2 - She Opens Her Eyes And there are also a few less known songs from UTIS singles that deserve being issued to the world ... such as : - Let It Slide - He Used To Be a Lovely Boy - Maybe I Can Change - Thin Air - Tyderian - The Iron Sea ( Magic Shop Edition ) And also others from the last PS album ... And also other covers : She Sells Sanctuary ( The Cult ), Dinner At Eight ( Rufus Wainwright ), The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore ( Walker Brothers ), What A Wonderful World ( Louis Armstrong ), White Christmas ( Irving Berlin ), Your Song ( Elton John ) ... Just search them in the net ... I was informed via Paty from Portugal ( what a sunny pleasant country ... ) ( she usually writes posts here ... ) I AM STILL AN UNCONDITIONAL KEANE FAN !!! Keep well !

Can't believe I missed this announcement, this is SUCH GREAT NEWS!!! I've been hoping for good recordings of hard-to-find b-sides for so long - thank you, Keane!! I can finally scrap those poor youtube recordings (well, some of them - hopefully you'll release more b-sides in the future? The Happy Soldier?!). Many thanks, can't wait to get it next month! :)
Hopes And Fears is and always was their cornerstone every track is simply beautiful it is dominated by The vintage Yamaha CP70B electric grand piano sound a piano that was heavilly used in the early 80s by Genesis, Peter Gabriel Simple Minds and U2 until it was replaced by awful digital keyboards UTIS is also a good album but with a dark undercurrent that took the vintage piano a step further by heavy experimented guitar pedals and Rhodes and Hammond Organs but they still stuck to the same format. Maybe we are a little hard on PS i liked it and i didnt why i liked it some songs were beat driven but the downside is it lacked emotion and the CP70 was drowned out by Korg Triton and Prophet T8( jean michelle jarre! youre not forgiven Tim For that one) synths. maybe the band were just testing their boundaries and enjoying themselves changing pace but i wasnt as impressed with it like the other two i must admit what drew me to Keane was their emotion driven songs and energy in them thats why i was hooked on them and i know they still have so many songs in the bag to keep us all hooked.
looking forward to it but can i say that it should have Dinner At Eight and B sides TTEOTE FTM and the fierce panda version of TITLT then it would be every Keane fans dream but yes definately looking forward to it

I agree with you Sue. They can do better than self- copycatting, though I wouldn't mind. Hopes and Fears 1, Hopes and Fears 2, Hopes and Fears 3.... , quite a thrill! Don't change the arsenal, just take out the dust.
@jhvfernandes, Gudrun * anonymfreddie - sorry but have to disagree totally - Keane can probably churn out absolutely beautiful melodies for years to come but they don't WANT to !!!!! They want to try new sounds/ new instruments / new arrangements / new producers and CHANGE their sound/ confound their critics. They want to develop as musicians and artists - and they may lose a few record sales in the process, but they'll gain critical acclaim AND more importantly be proud of what they're doing, and be at peace with themselves. As a MASSIVE Keane fan I can only applaud them and wait for the next album hoping it will be different again. That's why they'll keep me as a fan. They're SO good to their fans but the one area they have to have control over is the music they write. Woah - didn't know I felt so strongly - does anyone else out there agree with me??????

Great ! I've been desperate to have an album with some B sides on for ages. I already have quite a few from 7 digital but not Allemande or A Heart To Hold You, so I'm really pleased.
Yeah ! I already have most of these songs ... They are great ! But ... this special edition of the debut album, at this time ... is it not a signal that the third album was by far the worst of the three KEANE albums ? Really, I gave a break to listening to KEANE music after the third album was issued, because all the magical melodic sounds in their previous albums ( either the rythm-full pure piano of the first album or the effect-full symphonic synthesizers of the second album ) have simply dissappeared, and, in their last album, KEANE sound like any other ordinary band ... very ordinary ... In fact, I was expecting that KEANE, in their third album, would step up to or even go beyond the quality level of COLDPLAY, but it was the other way around ... the quality dropped amazingly ... I really think that KEANE are owing their fans ( and I am still a big fan ... ) an urgent new album, with high quality standards ( like the first two albums ) and putting aside the " 80's influence bullshit " ( the last album does not sound a bit like the music of the 80's ... ) or any other " pseudo - influences " ... Maybe a quiet album with the original KEANE standard melodies ( a guitar played the way Dom Scott played it and producing those atmospheric sounds would fit in nicely with Tim's electric piano ... ) and rhythm ( the current bass and drums combine quite well ... ) would be enough to make me believe, once more, that KEANE, undoubtedly, can become one of the three greatest bands in the world ... presently ... Just be yourselves and keep the style of the first and second albums ...

Gotta agree with Frankie's comment, I would love to see a return to piano based strength for Keane, it was the reason the first album was such a massive success. Its great to see you releasing this album, but to see it contain a new, unheard record, even just one, would be a huge selling point!

Wow thank you so much to Keane for releasing this!! It will be so wonderful to have some of the early 2000's and unreleased singles in cd quality!!! And all 3 of the songs that Tom wrote are on it too which is amazing!! This is such a treat for keane fans and i can't wait to hear all the songs and get the cd!!

Do you know what would be better? Better than this? ( no pun intended ) A better idea than repackaging the same material over and over, is to put out a BIG single of a new song. Release it, and get back on the UK/US Charts. It is coming up on one year for the album Perfect Symmetry.............................................................. ........... Keane can use a dose of regular rotation prior to November-December holiday shopping. What about it Tim? A new single, a stand alone. With heavy production quality and a return to Piano based strength.

I think i'll just be ordering the deluxe edition cd cos i don't like white t-shirts anyway. I take it we can only buy the cd from the keane shop and not in actual music stores like HMV? Anyway im quite pleased with this as it will mean adding more to my ever growing keane collection.

@ruthie, that's a very good idea about the Christmas CD! Dear Santa...all I want for Christmas is.....! I also wanted to comment on the price of these bundles. Yes, they are expensive, that's why I only ordered the CD, for me the music is worth more than owning a t-shirt or print. But there may be people who want to treat themselves or a loved one with the bundles and they have a nice little opportunity to get something special here. x

Into the Light was the very latest (aside from SLC) unreleased song I had heard and I was totally addicted from the first listen. I can't believe this song didn't see the light of day even in PS!!! It would have fit perfectly in there - it's one of the best songs that Tim has written!!! I love the vintage Keane background :) Ok, and the CP70 T-shirt is supercute!

I agree with one of the other comments that asking this price is a little irresponsible in this economic climate. Didn't you guys make enough money with this last tour? YES, i agree with Dra_House. There is some B-sides leftover. You can create a C-side album or what you want but dont forget : "thin air" ! And "he used to be a lovely boy", and To the end of the earth ? Something in me was dying ????It is fabulous songs. And what about the superb cover of Enjoy the silence ? And you could include acoustic covers as the 16th may fantastic cover of "Is it any wonder" for example...Well, keaners are never satisfied ;) Good night my dearest Keane.
