Tim's Strangeland track-by-track: #3 Disconnected

02 May 2012

3 - DISCONNECTED          LEER ESTO EN ESPAÑOL

I wrote this when I was driving up the west coast of America. I suspect it may have had its origins in some argument or other with my wife, but I can't remember! But since that no doubt passed very quickly, I think the song has quite a jaunty feel to it, not too weighed down by its lyrical content! I think it's quite Beatles-y in that respect - sad words with a very 'happy' melody. I like the imagery of a relationship being like a decrepit house, especially the line about boarding up the windows.

I think I only finished the song because I stumbled across the rough sketch in the studio one day and thought I'd have a quick listen - just at that moment Jesse came in and said "What's that? I love it!"

Tim

3 - DISCONNECTED           READ IN ENGLISH

¡Me encanta!"

Tim

This is an amazing song, and as Jesse does I love it!...

This song is not my favorite number. This is because of the twist in singing the song. it goes in lots of different levels. It does learn you to do something else with your voice than sing it more straight lined.

The best of the songs from the best of the bands in the world...Pure brilliance.

This song grabbed me as soon as I heard it. Got that classic Keane quality that really defines who you are as a band. Excellent song writing yet again!

=) ME GUSTO MUCHO LA CANCION¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

I guess Jayne is a great woman, since such a brilliant man loves her. When I begin listening to the first videos of 2010 I didn’n feel attracted by Disconnected (in love at first listen to SLC, though), but suddenly it caught me. The Strangeland version is much more powerful than previous one! I wouldn’t say the melody sounds happy, but very sensual indeed, in complete contrast with the lyrics theme. Tom has widely developed his low notes now, and I think the “Uh uh” at the beginning of the chorus is one of the sexiest parts of Strangeland. Looking forward your next explanations, with lots of love from Argentina ♥♥♥♥

Just Tim Rice-Oxley can become arguments in masterpieces ;)

I have to say I totally love this song. One of the first things I noticed is, as you said, the contrast between deeply sad lyrics and the happy melody. I love that too. In a sense it's a "hopeless" song, no happy ending, no hope, no light at the end of the road, and I was actually a bit scared about the origins of such sad topic (I'm so glad it was only a momentary lack of understanding between the two of you of course!). I find it quite "scary" and "creepy" in some parts, like the boarded windows, things creeping in under the door and soaking through the floor. I still remember the first time you played live this song. I was in Philadelphia in 2010 and actually also heared it during the soundcheck :P I was so excited!!! And here it is!!!

YOU KNOW WHY YOY GUYS ARE SO AWESOME?? YOU HAVE SUCH AN INCREDIBLE ENERGY AND PASSION AND WHEN YOU PUT THOSE STRONG FEELINGS TOGETHER YOU CREATE JUST A PERFECT ATMOSPHERE. MANY BANDS MAY HAVE A GREAT SINGER (ALTHOUGH IT'S DIFFICULT SOMEONE BETTER THAN YOU, TOM), VERY GOOD MUSICIANS, MAGICAL LYRICS AND BLAH BLAH BLAH. ALL IMPORTANTS THINGS, OF COURSE... BUT, YOU LOVELY PEOPLE, YOU CREATE MUCH MORE THAN MUSIC, YOU CREATE FEELINGS, EXPERIENCE.. I DON'T HOW EXACTLY EXPLAIN IT. YOU JUST ARE BEYOND ALL. YOU MAKE ME FEEL HAPPY AND MORE. KEEP GOING... YOU ARE MAKING FUCKING CLASSICS THINGS!!! A HUGE KISS FROM ARGENTINA. ELIANA.

Saludos desde Bs.As. Argentina.

This song is beautiful. It should be the first single. Although the video. (I'm repeating myself). The music is wonderful. Even if all the other songs from the new album will not worthwhile (which is not the case), I would buy it for DISCONNECTED .. .So beautiful... Thank you

Posted by SissiR at 5:36pm, 02 May 2012

Baixa i Puja. Jo si em permets, trobo "Watch How you go" Beatles total. Perquè "The blind leading the blind. We have been disconnected".

I think I'm living my moment disconnected and thanks Tim & Keane. Your music is helping me to move on. When I read anything connected with the Beatles, makes me feel great. Beijos, Regina.

Disconnected is a very dynamic song. It says about relationship problems in a kind of cheerful way, making acceptance of what is going on with you easy. Thank you, Tim!
